LARGO, Fla. — With only days before the Florida Republican primary, the four remaining candidates are working to gain the favor of undecided voters. Here are thoughts from Florida Republican voters on the candidates they plan to back on Tuesday: “I’m voting for Mitt Romney. Although his positions do not parallel my ideology entirely, I’m a realist and know he will attract the independent voters. The independent voters will decide this election so we need to be realistic. I admire Newt’s tenacity but I believe Gov. Romney is the only candidate running who can win the election. Obama must go.”…
There are two kinds of stories: great ones and the ones that have to be pitched. This article isn?t about great stories. I have a lot of fond memories from TechCrunch — being there when the YouTube acquisition broke, covering the rise of Y Combinator, and generally speaking to people a recent college grad had no right chatting with, let alone interrogating about their company. However, getting pitched wasn?t one of them. Pitching the press is a lot like trying to close any other business deal — sans the excitement of any money changing hands. In fact, “selling” a pitch…
NEW YORK (Reuters) ? Banks dragged the stock market lower on Monday, with losses accelerating late after Bank of America’s stock price fell below $5 for the first time in nearly three years. Warnings of deteriorating conditions in the euro zone and concerns about tougher capital rules that could cut into big banks’ profits pressured the financials throughout the day. When BofA, the largest U.S. bank, plunged through $5, it ignited a late-day decline in the sector and the broader market, which fell 1 percent. More than 29 million shares of the stock traded, accounting for about 5.4 percent of…
The Google TV update that rolled out to Sony units earlier this week (no word on the Revue, yet) brought tweaks to Chrome and support for Blu-ray 3D playback on the player, but that’s not all. The bump to Android 3.2 also improved hooks for developers to access channel listings in their apps, enabled hardware acceleration and last but not least, improved support for HTTP Live Streaming. That last detail is particularly important to those streaming video from their PCs using Plex, since additional HLS tweaks were necessary to allow viewing of files transcoded from otherwise-Google TV unfriendly formats. Also…
TRIPOLI (Reuters) ? Aid agency Medecins Sans Frontieres (MSF) has halted its work in detention centers in a Libyan city because it said its medical staff were being asked to patch up detainees mid-way through torture sessions so they could go back for more abuse. Rights groups have repeatedly raised concerns about torture being used against people, many of them sub-Saharan Africans, suspected of having fought for Muammar Gaddafi’s forces during Libya’s nine-month civil war. The agency said it was in Misrata, 200 km (130 miles) east of the Libyan capital and scene of some of the fiercest battles in…
